Hybrid Battery Safety: Criteria

Badge Recipients will understand and consistently execute safe practices when working with High Voltage (HV) systems in hybrid automotive settings. This includes the following knowledge and skills:

Understand the effects of current on the human body and circumstances that will produce such currents

Can identify and use appropriate safety gear (Class O gloves and DMM's) to both protect the technician and confirm that HV system has been disabled.

Can consistently and reliably execute a process for safely disabling, and verifying, the HV system for repairs.

Can verify that insulation is not compromised in a HV system.

Can isolate electronic equipment used to test HV systems to avoid potentially hazardous ground loops

Can locate and use safety interlock systems on hybrid systems from all major manufacturers to isolate HV batteries from the rest of the system.
