Recitation:

“Recitation” is a part of your required classroom time. Our class is listed as lasting two hours and twenty minutes on Mondays and Wednesdays, with the first half being “lecture” and the second half being “lab.” In general (by no means a hard and fast rule) the last hour of the classes will be “Recitation.” Each recitation problem set or lab is worth 10 points. Points are available for complete and logical work. **I drop the (1) lowest recitation score.

Homework:

Homework assignments are posted weekly on Blackboard or the web. Each HW assignment is worth 20 points and the due dates are listed on your course schedule. Problem set grading is intended to reward presentation and earnest effort in mastering the course material. It is in your best interest to not just complete, but understand the homework problems. I recognize that solutions are readily available. I will be looking for your problem-solving process when grading homework.

Homework Requirements (see example on web):

Must have Student Name, Homework # (e.g., HW6), class name (Dynamics), and page numbers.

Must have labeled (1) Given, (2) Required, (3) Strategy, (4) Solution sections.

Use standard sized Engineering or “quad” (graph) paper only (NO LINED NOTEBOOK PAPER).

Solutions must be in pencil.

Solutions must be neat and easy to understand.

All steps in solution must be shown.

Figures must be used when appropriate and drawn roughly to scale.

Answers must be specific and have units.

Answers must be boxed.

Problems must be in order, and stapled together

Exams:

There will be 2 midterm exams. Each exam is worth 80 points. No make-up exams will be given.

Final:

A comprehensive final exam, worth 80 - 100 points, will take place during finals week.
