Homework:

As a applied science engineering is fundamentally about applying the tools you learn in class to as broad a range of settings as possible. Like any skill it is necessary to push yourself a little beyond your current limits to build greater skill. This often means that there is often a lot of time spent puzzling over how to approach a problem or apply the tools in a new setting. It is certainly a normal experience to spend 1-2 hours working out a clear solution to a homework problem. Engineering students should expect their homework for each class to take 10-20 hrs/week to complete. If you are routinely completing your homework in 5-6 hrs then please ask your instructor for more challenging problems.

A feature of engineering problems is that they can be mathematically long and involved with many steps. Clarity in your solution is a disciplinary value and can be acheived in a number of ways. One way is to solve the problem on 'scrap paper' and then organize and transfer that solution to clean paper to turn in. On the other hand, learning to work in a clear and organized way from the beginning is an important skill since your future work in engineering will require your documents to start out as well organized and clear. As you explore the expectations for the format of homework problems be conscious of both of these possibilities.

Fair Use Concerns:

Do to fair use concerns I may only post solutions on this page. My solutions are mine and as such can be shared broadly. The homework problems from the 'required' text will be posted in the LMS for this reason. Some HW problems will be take from OER sources and those may get posted here as I have the time.
