What are Recitation Problems?

In engineering classes the concepts and tools can be conceptually accessible but it is in the application to specific problems that issues tend to arise. It has been the practice at COCC for a number of years now to use a significant part of class time to have students work through practice problems (called Recitation Problems - RP) related to the days material in class. This often leads to additional clarity about the meaning of terms as well as the physical contexts in which the technique or tool applies.

Another challenge that recitation problems seek to address is the natural tendency to put off conceptual and practical skills development until some later time when the homework problems are due. It is the hope that because recitation problems are practiced at the time the materials are introduced in class and are due before the next class time this will help learners/students stay current with the material and be better prepared for the homework problems and exams.
