What is a Portfolio?
A portfolio is a sampling of your best work neatly packaged for presentation to evaluator(s) – me. Often visual artists prepare portfolios of their creative work for juried competitions, entrance to schools, or for potential employers. The goal is for you to assemble a collection of your work which, in your opinion, demonstrates your mastery of the learning outcomes given to you on the first day of class and still posted on the Physics website.
Why should you care?
Perhaps this is a little harshly phrased but the basic sentiment is correct. Given that this can’t affect your grade adversely as long as you meet accomplished levels of performance on at least half the measures on the portfolio rubric what motivation do you have to put some significant effort into it? There is the matter of your personal commitment to your learning and the pride that I hope you have in mastering a difficult subject which will be reflected by this document. It is my intention to invest as much in my evaluation of your work as you seem to have invested in creating it. I do hope that I will have a lot of work to do!
Be aware that if, in the future, you might want a letter of recommendation from me (and many of you seem to do) I will base it primarily on the insight and quality reflected in your portfolio.
